Developing a Smart City

Smart City refers to the full integration of a new generation of IT technology into city management and all industries in a city, so that the citizens can enjoy a better living, and sustainable ecosystem could be developed.

Today, IT and innovative technology evolve continually, making city management more accurate and effective, and also provide quality and personalized services to the citizens for improving their quality of living. To build a “smarter” city, the government must take the lead to actively engage in the relevant policies, standards and data management, and to attract industry and public participation.

Smart City is not purely a technology topic. To establish a Smart City policy, the government must open up more public data, be more transparent in city management, and encourage the general public to participate in city development and management actively. Building a Smart City is also a development process of a civil society. When the public can access more public information, they will have more ways to optimize city management.

Political Platform:

  • Establish Smart City development blueprint to push the government to create a mechanism of public-private collaboration, and formulate Smart City standard and development plan.
  • Promote the construction of Smart City related IT infrastructure.
  • Establish a Smart City platform for public participation, so that the public can participate in the development of Smart City.
  • Urge the government to open more public data for the IT industry to develop more applications for the public.
  • Promote cooperation with overseas and mainland smart cities to seek for opportunities for Hong Kong IT industry to participate in the national and global standard formulation work.
